About Me

I’m a product development leader currently working on Oracle’s Social Cloud in Austin, TX. While my formal education is in user experience, my career has comprised predominantly of engineering roles. I have extensive experience with both working in and advising startups. I have worked with and consulted for clients of my interactive design and development firm (Dragon Eye Design) since 1999. In high school, I developed web applications for educational institutions and worked on startup ideas with classmates. After returning to the U.S., I became one of the earliest engineers for HomeAway, Inc. I then joined a fintech startup where I developed its equity crowdfunding investment platform, had a brief stint at Apple as a DevOps engineer in their business intelligence department, then returned to the fintech startup as CTO, where I oversaw both design and development for the startup. Nowadays I enjoy consulting and advising startups on product development topics, in addition to working on my own side projects.

I was born in Minnesota but moved to Tianjin, China when I was five. I met my wife there during my junior year of high school. I returned to Minnesota to begin my college studies at the University of Minnesota, but moved down to San Antonio, TX two years later to be closer to my future wife. We both moved to Austin, TX in another two years, and we have been living there ever since. I graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Communication Design (emphasis on interactive media). We are currently enjoying life with our two children and two black labs.

When I’m not developing interactive products for business or pleasure, I am usually playing soccer or video games, drumming, biking, or going on hikes with my family. I am an avid traveler and have set a stretch goal of visiting all of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in my lifetime. I also sometimes find the time to read articles and books about technology, design, science, philosophy, and theology.
